Third Annual CASA Derby Party
The Third Annual CASA Derby Party was held at the beautiful Gardinar Ranch on Saturday, May 3, 2014. It featured the world famous Mint Julep, delicious Bluegrass-inspired Derby appetizers an exquisite dinner, live music, dancing and unique set of various auctions items. The event is an annual fundraiser for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Kern County who speak for abused and neglected children in the juvenile dependency process through the use of highly-trained volunteers. The Bank’s Carol Aceves, Julie Cheeseman, Bruce Jay, Garth Corrigan, and Pritesh Patel present a check to the BRMH. The majority of the $3,000 donation was raised by employee contributions. Team members at VRB donate $5 once a month to participate in ‘Jean Friday.’ “All of this money stays right here in the community to help families with pediatric patients in area hospitals,” according to Scarlett Sabin, Executive Director of the ‘House that Love Built.’
Campout Against Cancer, 2014
The two-day event was filled with extreme games, music, and team competitions. The inaugural Campout Against Cancer raised more than $330,000 for local cancer patients and their families. Community members are able to apply for assistance with co-pays, deductibles and other cancer diagnosis expenses. Bruce Jay Elected to the Board of Directors of the California Bankers Association
Bruce Jay, President and CEO of Valley Republic Bank, was elected to the board of directors of the California Bankers Association (CBA) at the recent CBA 2014 annual meeting held in Laguna Niguel. The CBA is one of the largest state bank associations in the country. It leads the way in developing relevant educational and legislative solutions to some of California’s more pressing financial and banking issues, including financial empowerment, identity theft, financial privacy, and financial elder abuse. CBA’s membership includes the majority of California’s commercial, industrial and community banks and savings associations.

Pritesh Patel Joins The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce Board
The Bakersfield native graduated from Bakersfield High School before heading off to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance with a minor in economics. Patel joined VRB in late 2008 as part of the enthusiastic team that launched Bakersfield’s newest community bank and now manages the Grand Island Village branch on Ming Avenue. Patel will graduate from the School of Banking at Colorado in the summer of 2014.

Timothy B. Hay of Valley Republic Bank is starting his 51st year in the banking industry, primarily in agricultural financing. His career started in 1963 (thanks to Bakersfield farm banker Jim Beagle) with the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank (part of the Farm Credit System) in Berkeley, California, and included time with Tri-State Livestock Corporation, Livermore Production Credit Association, the Western Farm Credit Bank in Sacramento, Stockman’s Bank in Elk Grove, and San Joaquin Bank/Citizens Business Bank.

New Branch Opens, July, 2012
On Monday, July 30, 2012, Valley Republic Bank, opened a new branch office in southwest Bakersfield. The branch is located in the Grand Island Village center at the corner of Ming Avenue and Buena Vista Road. The new neighborhood shopping area also serves as home to Sully's Petroleum, the Dewar's Express Drive-Thru and other well-known local businesses.
