Third Annual CASA Derby Party

The Third Annual CASA Derby Party was held at the beautiful Gardinar Ranch on Saturday, May 3, 2014.  It featured the world famous Mint Julep, delicious Bluegrass-inspired Derby appetizers an exquisite dinner, live music, dancing and unique set of various auctions items.  The event is an annual fundraiser for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Kern County who speak for abused and neglected children in the juvenile dependency process through the use of highly-trained volunteers.  Valley Republic Bank is a proud supporter of the CASA program in Kern County.


VRB Employees Donate “Jean Friday” Fund to The Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House

The Bank’s Carol Aceves, Julie Cheeseman, Bruce Jay, Garth Corrigan, and Pritesh Patel present a check to the BRMH. The majority of the $3,000 donation was raised by employee contributions. Team members at VRB donate $5 once a month to participate in ‘Jean Friday.’ “All of this money stays right here in the community to help families with pediatric patients in area hospitals,” according to Scarlett Sabin, Executive Director of the ‘House that Love Built.’


Campout Against Cancer, 2014

The two-day event was filled with extreme games, music, and team competitions. The inaugural Campout Against Cancer raised more than $330,000 for local cancer patients and their families. Community members are able to apply for assistance with co-pays, deductibles and other cancer diagnosis expenses. Bruce Jay, President and CEO of Valley Republic Bank, is Chairman of the Kern County Cancer Fund.


Valley Republic Bank Helps Welcome Forbes Publisher, Rich Karlgaard to Bakersfield

When the Kern EDC, The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce and CSUB created a winning line up for the 14th Annual Kern County Economic Summit, VRB became a Gold sponsor. The successful event featured a keynote address from Rich Karlgaard, Publisher of Forbes Magazine, a representative of the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco and many regional and national economists who discussed current economic conditions and forecasts for the future.


The Bakersfield Jam Welcomes Dick Enberg to Town

Larry Carr Memorial Golf Tournament Sponsor, 2013

A community tradition, the Larry Carr Annual Golf Tournament benefits the programs of the Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Foundation. The Bank was the premier sponsor of last year’s event with all proceeds benefitting our community’s pediatric healthcare services at The Lauren Small Children’s Medical Center.


CASA - Wine, Women and Shoes Sponsor, 2013

Hundreds of community members came out in support of the Kern County Court Appointed Special Advocate’s annual Wine, Women and Shoes event at the Jamieson home in Old Stockdale. VRB was a proud sponsor and congratulates CASA as they continue the very important work of advocating for children in the foster care system.


Latination at Metro Galleries, 2013

As hundreds gathered to view the Latination Exhibit at Metro Galleries, Valley Republic Bank was behind the scenes in support of the annual event. This year entries arrived from throughout the country and included a special exhibit of artwork from children involved in the programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County.

Bruce Jay Elected to the Board of Directors of the California Bankers Association

Bruce Jay, President and CEO of Valley Republic Bank, was elected to the board of directors of the California Bankers Association (CBA) at the recent CBA 2014 annual meeting held in Laguna Niguel.  The CBA is one of the largest state bank associations in the country.  It leads the way in developing relevant educational and legislative solutions to some of California’s more pressing financial and banking issues, including financial empowerment, identity theft, financial privacy, and financial elder abuse. CBA’s membership includes the majority of California’s commercial, industrial and community banks and savings associations.

Pritesh Patel Joins The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce Board

The Bakersfield native graduated from Bakersfield High School before heading off to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance with a minor in economics. Patel joined VRB in late 2008 as part of the enthusiastic team that launched Bakersfield’s newest community bank and now manages the Grand Island Village branch on Ming Avenue. Patel will graduate from the School of Banking at Colorado in the summer of 2014.


Congratulations to Tim Hay as He Celebrates 50 Years in Agribusiness!

Timothy B. Hay of Valley Republic Bank is starting his 51st year in the banking industry, primarily in agricultural financing. His career started in 1963 (thanks to Bakersfield farm banker Jim Beagle) with the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank (part of the Farm Credit System) in Berkeley, California, and included time with Tri-State Livestock Corporation, Livermore Production Credit Association, the Western Farm Credit Bank in Sacramento, Stockman’s Bank in Elk Grove, and San Joaquin Bank/Citizens Business Bank.

Jack Smith Joins Valley Republic Bank

VRB is pleased to welcome Jack Smith to the team as EVP – Chief Credit Officer. With more than 30 years of leadership and financial experience in the Kern County Market, Smith will oversee the Bank’s credit lending practices. In addition to being an active part of the local community, he brings an extensive background in agribusiness, complex loan portfolio management, treasury management, and an in-depth knowledge of credit processes.


New Branch Opens, July, 2012

On Monday, July 30, 2012, Valley Republic Bank, opened a new branch office in southwest Bakersfield. The branch is located in the Grand Island Village center at the corner of Ming Avenue and Buena Vista Road. The new neighborhood shopping area also serves as home to Sully's Petroleum, the Dewar's Express Drive-Thru and other well-known local businesses. "This full service banking office, including a drive-up window, brings community banking to the southwest area and will provide convenient access for area businesses and our professional clients," said Bruce Jay, President and CEO of Valley Republic Bank.
